Insect Cell Media
The use of the baculovirus expression system (BEVS) for insect cells cultured in isotope-labeled media has shown to be a proven technique for the production of isotope labeled membrane proteins, most notably, G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR)s. CIL is proud to have pioneered a chemically-defined culture medium that has been used with Spodoptera frugiperda (SF9) cells. This medium, BioExpress 2000®, can be manufactured with uniform labeling or amino acid specific labeling. Unlabeled trial-sizes are available for use in checking feasibility and optimization prior to using labeled media. Please refer to CIL Application Notes 14 (“Efficient Uniform Isotope Labeling of Proteins Expressed in Baculovirus-Infected Insect Cells using BioExpress2000® (Insect Cell) Medium”) and 20 (“Effective Site-Specific Isotopic Labeling (13C15N Glycine; 13C15N Phenylalanine; 15N tryptophan) Expression Optimization using BioExpress2000® Media”) for additional information.
